A “Phase 3” Summer in Texas

Graduation caps were thrown, swimsuits are dusted off, and Dad’s grill is fired up because summertime is in full swing! Although, hold the happy hour because summer in 2020 is getting a makeover equipped with hand sanitizer, face masks, and household disinfectants.

The month of May thawed of some of Governor Abbot’s isolation regulations, giving us ladies a reason to throw some makeup on again, as we saw the reopening of restaurants, retail stores, beauty services, movie theaters, and other non-essential businesses (at the discretion of business owners of course) at limited capacity.

What does that mean for us fellow Austinites? Continue to check revised operating hours, schedule appointments, and make reservations. Businesses are hungry for our support and are hard at work implementing precautions to keep us safe as we return to their establishments.

An excellent example is the Hill Country Galleria, located in Bee Cave, who has implemented curbside pickup, delivery, limited dine-in, and various customer appreciation programs. In particular, Tony C’s, a popular pizza joint in the Galleria, is currently offering $10 bonus with every $50 gift card purchased and Tadashi Sushi is accommodating free delivery!

We recently spoke with a client who joked about her new job as a home-schoolteacher these past few months. To the parents who’ve been juggling oh so much recently, we are happy to inform you that youth and summer camps have been cleared to open this June. So pack the youngsters up for a wholesome outdoor experience with their friends, while you hit the (recently opened) spa with yours.

For the readers out there, we all patiently await the reopening of all Austin Public Library locations; however, you will be pleased to learn the Lake Travis Community Library has begun a curbside reserve program and Cedar Park Public Library has converted to a Grab-and-Go establishment!

Diving into June, restaurants in Texas are now allowed to seat parties of ten, and later in the month we will see restaurants adjust to 75% capacity, along with the opening of amusement parks.

Still to come, bring out the foam fingers boys and girls because pro sports are making their comeback debut in the next few months. Although you can’t yet attend games as fans in the stands, you can cheer on your favorite golfer and soccer teams from the comfort of your couch this summer; and have no fear, the NFL is still here! The Cowboys and Steelers are ready to kickoff “eat your Wheaties” season September 6th, so have the pretzels ready boys. Finally, don’t lose spirit for the MLB and NBA as they are tirelessly pouring over return strategies.

Summer 2020 will be an interesting adjustment to usual fun-in-the-sun, but don’t pack away the pool toys just yet. Our community continues to work together to provide safe entertainment across Texas, so go out (at your discretion) and enjoy the summer!

But first, some quick GAT advice…don’t forget the sunscreen, nobody wants a face mask tan!
