Be Merry and Bright Part 2

Take a Break During Christmas Break - Make Time for Fun

We have one week left before Christmas. The kids are out of school. There is still wrapping to be done, cookies to bake and donations to make…the list goes on and on. Give yourself a gift before the holidays; give yourself the gift of time. Time to take a breather. Time to spend with your family. Time to laugh and enjoy your kids this Christmas Season. Sometimes we rush around so much that we forget to actually enjoy ourselves. The list of to-dos must get “to-done” and the break is over in a blink of an eye. So take a break from the holiday madness and make time to do something fun with your kids; not because you have to, just because you want to. Here is a list of some of our favorite things to do in Austin over Christmas break.

Still need to see the Jolly Fat-man in Red? Here are a few locations to get a pic with your kiddos with the larger-than-life elf. And remember that next year, you can join the Arant Team on Black Friday for our annual Santa Event!

Shopping Centers near Steiner Ranch with Santa through December 24th

The Domain

Located in Domain II, across from iPic Theaters, near American Eagle, Santa’s workshop is a lovely stop for the kiddos. You can even book your appointment on line at: simon.noerrsanta.comClick here to view the Santa schedule.

Barton Creek Square Mall

Get a little shopping done no matter the weather at this indoor mall. Between the Santa, the giant fish aquarium, the Lego store and hot chocolate at the Nordstom's café, this location will check all your boxes. Again, you can reserve your appointment online, for a $10 fee.

Hill Country Galleria

If you missed the snow-day at the Galleria, fear not, you can still meet Santa and ask him to bring you more! (However, we don’t recommend placing snow in Texas at the top of your list!) The Hill Country Galleria Santa welcomes children as well as your “furrier” family members so bring kids or pets alike and get photos with his Jolliness. Take your own photos and enjoy this free Santa sighting.

Events to plan for next year:

Santa and Trains!?!? What?!?! Want to double-down on some serious fun and make childhood dreams come true in just one outing? Check out the North Pole Flyer. Too late to book a trip this year? Mark this one on your calendar for next year, usually right after Thanksgiving until the week before Christmas. This 2.5-hour train excursion features Santa, Mrs. Claus, storytelling, hot cocoa and a signature Christmas cookie. Each car is decorated for the season – how can you top this????

If trains are for the boys, then this tea and teddy-bear activity is for the girls. Get dressed up and head down to the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin. Have a traditional full tea service as you and your little one sit by the fire and listen to Christmas carolers. Beginning after Thanksgiving and going through the week before Christmas, it is one of those special afternoons you won’t soon forget. Please bring a new, unwrapped teddy bear to be donated to Dell Children’s hospital.  Call (512) 685-8300 for reservations.

Tired of sitting around, check out these activities:

Take the family out for some exercise and fun. Do you remember ice-skating when you were little? Carve a couple hours out of your busy day and head over to Chaparral Ice Center. Located at 2525 Anderson Lane in Austin, Texas, you can rent skates there. Be sure to bundle up, mittens and all because it gets cold on the ice. It is a great excuse for hot cocoa and marshmallows afterwards.

If being cold is not on your list of fun activities, check out this retro bowling alley. It has been making Austin families smile since 1958. With 32 lanes and bumper bowling for the kiddos this is one way to spend a fun-filled afternoon out of the house.

So whatever you choose to do during this Christmas break, take time to enjoy it. Have fun with your family. It is a great time to remember what it is like to be a kid at Christmas time! Merry Christmas y’all.
